Hooks Offered by Goat Hill Designs

There are an amazing number of hooks on the market and several factors to consider when choosing one: cost, how you hold your hook, what cuts you wish to use, and esthetics are a few. Many folks collect them just because they are so beautiful. There is no real formula for figuring out what hook will work best for you. The best thing is to try out a few. If you have any type of hand, finger, or arm pain, consider using several different types of hooks so that you are not straining one certain area.

MOSHIMER HOOKS

The Moshimer hook is a great all purpose hook at a great price -- $6.00 US plus shipping. It comes in fine, medium, coarse, primitive and there is a bent hook as well. I use this hook to start beginners with because it is inexpensive and can be held like a pencil or palmed. Many stick with this hook all through their hooking careers.

HARTMAN HOOKS

There are all sorts of of Hartman hooks. They come with elongated handles that can be held like a pencil and oval handles that are great for palming. There are several different sizes of hooks, many for narrower cuts. These hooks are not just for wide cuts. $35.00

MILLER HOOKS

I love Miller Hooks. The hook is not a crochet hook and to me the wool slides over it more easily than the other hooks. They range in hook size from Very fine to primitive. $30.00.

Below are more Miller Hooks made from special wood including coco bolo and colorwood (the one with pink and teal stripes). Beautiful. $45.

In addition to the hooks listed above, I have a huge assortment of other hooks, including the Ritchie hooks made in England. The woods used are gorgeous and there are pencil handled hooks, pear handled hooks and an easy grip handled hook. The hooks come in both brass and steel with different lengths and widths of both shank and hooks. I had Les Ritchie make a special hook for Abby Vakay that is great to use with mixed media materials such as metal. The hook is very sharp and made of steel, making it very strong, and it has a short shank. Ritchie also makes the spring loaded proddy tool that I prefer to use for proddy as well as a peg type prodding tool. All of these hooks sell for $40. US (plus shipping) except for the peg type prodding tool which is $15 US plus shipping.
